What are your goals?
Goals are the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Usually, when we talk to our clients or potential clients they have a general idea of what they want to accomplish. But general goals are not good enough. If you get specific about a goal, then generally you can find your way to get to it.
Everything that we do in marketing should have a purpose and a goal. Know specifically why you are spending your resources, both time and money before you set out to do it. When you advertise, what is the goal? Do you have a specific ROI in mind? Are you accounting for the cost, and the time to put it together? Before you sign up for a sponsorship or an event, know what the end goal is? Are you looking for leads, and if so, did you determine a way to capture them? If you captured them do you have a plan in place to nurture them?
Now, let's be reasonable about your goal. Is it realistic and achievable? Of course, we all want 100 new closed leads in the next month. But is that realistic and achievable. For some companies, that goal is not high enough and for others, there is no possible way they could achieve that.
Goals are not as meaningful unless there are systems in place to measure the goal. Develop a dashboard that helps you track your progress and you will be amazed at how, when you focus on that pot of gold, you find your way to it!
